Introspection

Thomas morice - soul-searching and self-analysis

From Cobol to REACT

Kuhn & the beginnings

My first experiences were very varied, going from DELPHI and C# during my apprenticeship at Perinfo, to AS400 in Kuhn. In these technologies, the graphic and visual aspect was almost nonexistent, which was sometimes frustrating.

I quickly realized that I wanted to head into web development. My new challenge was now to level up my skills, since my knowledge in this field was very limited.

Self-taught

Thomas morice - self-taught self-entrepreneur

Self-entrepreneur

Having encountered difficulties in selling myself to a company as a web developer, I had to take the lead. It was as a self-entrepreneur that I really got into web development, mainly using HTML, CSS and PHP.

I have developed several websites, for a restaurant, a butcher with an online ordering system, and an aesthetic office.

Thanks to these experiences, I was able to integrate the Strasbourg-based company Optimind Winter as a web developer for two years, which was both professionally and humanly rewarding.

Adventurer

Thomas morice - living abroad - Stockholm - Sweden

Living abroad

Once again, at the dawn of my 30th birthday, I felt the call of a new challenge, which was living in a foreign country. My partner and I chose Sweden as a destination for our new life.

I have really boosted my professional skills, and my well-being since I have been living in Stockholm. The possibilities as a developer are endless. I had little trouble finding a job, I even got my first contract before I even settled in the country.

I also had less trouble finding a job as a web developer here because I had the impression that they valued the person, their desires, and their motivation more than diplomas or experience.

Thomas morice - apprendre au fur et à mesure des expériences

Thomas Morice working at Bannerflow Bannerflow

I joined the city of Stockholm as a web developer at the company Bannerflow. I spent two exceptional years there, and I have kept amazing memories and friends of this experience.

During these few months, I maintained their website made of Wordpress and Advanced Custom Field which was used as Headless CMS, with Laravel who took care of the generation of the static site. A principle little known at that time, but which already worked very well.

I also implemented their blog under Wordpress at the same time, having had the choice of technology I chose the one they were already using for the consumer website, and which the content editors of the company were used to, Wordpress.

Thomas Morice working at Natural Cycles Natural Cycles

There was an opportunity as Lead Web Developer for me at Natural Cycles, so I decided to try myself as a manager.

Despite the difficulties I encountered in putting on this new cap, I learned a lot from this experience and I do not regret this choice at all. It also allowed me to enter the world of javascript libraries with Angular.

Grow up from this experience, I wanted to refocus on the developer job only, my first passion.

Thomas Morice working at Qred AB Qred AB

Thanks to my new mission at Qred, I discovered a new JS library under the name of Vue, more precisely Nuxt.js, a framework for building Vue application.

I was able to deepen my knowledge in static site generation from this framework. A new enriching experience, punctuated by wonderful encounters.

Thomas Morice working at Apegroup Today ∙ Apegroup

Having the impression of no longer fulfilling a real need, I decided to change boxes again, and it was Apegroup that I joined in early 2020.

I quickly dove into a major project of the group, developed in Next.js, a React framework for writing universal applications

Delighted to be able to bring my personal experience, I appreciate the possibility of being able to learn on a daily basis, in particular by touching the backend part of the application, and to better understand how it works behind the curtains (Postgres, node etc...).
